What is the SECC?
Simply put, the State Employees' Combined Campaign is a charitable giving
program that allows state employees to give to one or more participating
charities of our choice in a way that demonstrates our united support of our
community. From the local level all the way out to the global, the SECC provides
a way for each member of the UNC Asheville community to join together in showing
our commitment to causes that are important to us.
The dollars you contribute may help a child suffering from cancer, deliver meals
to a homebound senior citizen, or save a dog or cat from abuse and neglect. Your
gift can feed hundreds and build affordable housing. The choice is yours.
Whatever YOU are passionate about, chances are you can find a way to help others
and make a difference through your participation in the SECC.
Why Should I Participate?
Your gift IS IMPORTANT. Even the smallest of kindnesses can make a big
difference in life.
Did you know that for $5, you could...
-
feed 12 people in a daily soup line?
-
subsidize rent for a formerly homeless family
staying in supportive community housing?
-
pay for the spay/neuter of a dog or cat for a
low-income family?
-
buy a box of nails to be used in building a
quality, affordable home for a family in need?
Did you know that for $50, you could...
-
plant 100 sapling trees?
-
enroll one child in a 10-week summer day camp?
-
provide 50 bus passes for 50 trips to medical or
social service appointments?
-
provide 10 meal passes for families of patients
at a children's hospital?
Just imagine the collective impact we, as a campus
community, could have if each one of us committed to give something, as little
or as much as we are so moved, inclined or able to give!
As a group of your peers, we (the UNC Asheville SECC
Committee) invite you to join us in this team commitment to make a difference in
our community!
SECC History and
Highlights
In its relatively short existence, the North Carolina State Employees Combined
Campaign (SECC) has become one of the nation’s premier public sector
fund-raising efforts. Since 1986, state employees have contributed more
than $70
million to hundreds of charitable organizations that provide benefits and
services to the residents of North Carolina.
Established by gubernatorial order, the SECC has flourished each year under the
guidance and vision of its state employee volunteer leadership. Today it is
recognized for its tradition of excellence among the state employee workforce
and is acknowledged by many charities as one of the most effective state
employee campaigns in the United States.
The community at-large can identify the commitment of state employees more
easily now than in past years. State employee contributions to the SECC enrich
the delivery of community services and improve the quality of life for all North
Carolinians. The SECC's continuous tradition of excellence has prompted an
impressive level of support from employees and retirees.
“Public service is what it’s all about. As state government
employees, we know that our job is to serve the public. Citizens are depending
on us, and we come through for them daily. The State Employees Combined
Campaign offers us a wonderful opportunity to continue our belief in public
service beyond the requirements of our job.
- former State Chair, Gwynn Swinson, Secretary, Department
of Administration
The contributions to SECC charities are a personal investment in the people and
communities we serve. Our gifts go exactly where we designate. SECC is a way
to reach out and touch the lives of those in need. Charities include a wide
range of areas – from health and human services to education and environmental
protection. Because the solicitation of state employees and retirees is carried
out by their peers, administrative costs are kept low. The bottom line is that
more money goes directly to over 900 charities, making a difference in the
state, nation and around the world.
