Subject: Equal Employment Opportunity Policy
The University of North Carolina at Asheville is committed to equality of
educational and employment opportunity for applicants, students and
employees. UNCA is open to people of all races and actively seeks to
promote racial integration by recruiting and enrolling a diverse student body
and staff of employees.
With regard to employment, UNCA is committed to providing equal
employment opportunities for all persons regardless of race, color, national
origin, religion, sex, age, disability or political affiliation, except where sex or
age are bona fide job-related employment requirements. This policy is
applicable to all areas of personnel action, including, but not limited to
recruitment, selection, hiring, promotion, reclassification, transfer, training,
discipline, reduction in force, separation, compensation, performance
appraisal, disciplinary action and grievance procedures, and all other terms,
conditions, and benefits of employment.
With respect to educational activities, UNCA is committed to providing equal
educational opportunities for all persons consistent with local, state and
federal laws.
This policy is adopted in compliance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of
1964 as amended, Equal Pay Act of 1963, Age Discrimination in Employment
Act of 1968 as amended, Executive Order 11246, the Rehabilitation Act of
1973, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1988, the Americans with
Disabilities Act of 1990, Title VI and Title IX, N.C. G.S. 126-16 and 126-17,
and other applicable federal and state laws.
In furtherance of this policy, UNCA prohibits retaliatory action of any kind
taken by any employee of UNCA against any other employee or student
because that person made a charge, testified, assisted or participated in any
manner in a hearing, proceeding or investigation of discrimination.
When it is suspected or alleged that unlawful discrimination is being
practiced, every step will be taken to eliminate such practice(s) and prevent
them from occurring in the future. Such unlawful discrimination will not be
tolerated, including harassment (based on race, color, national origin, religion,
sex, age, or disability). Any person who perceives they have been
discriminated against, or who has a question regarding applicable laws and
regulations, is encouraged to contact the University Affirmative Action
Officer.
