UNC Asheville Philosophy Professor Gordon
Wilson was recently appointed as a fellow at the Royal Flemish
Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts for the 2011-2012
academic year. Each year, just some 10 fellowships are granted to
eminent scholars, scientists and artists from around the world.
Wilson serves as coordinator of an international team of
researchers, based at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium,
who are producing the complete works of the medieval philosopher
Henry of Ghent. Forty-five volumes are planned for the series; 18
have been completed. Wilson will use his fellowship to research an
upcoming volume in the series. While he is at the Royal Flemish
Academy, he will consult manuscripts in the Royal Library of
Belgium, as well as archives in Leuven, Ghent and Bruges.
Wilson joined UNC Asheville's faculty in 1997. He has also been a
guest senior professor at the Catholic University of Leuven,
Belgium. Wilson is the past recipient of six National Endowment for
the Humanities grants and is a former Fulbright Senior Fellow and a
United Negro College Fund Distinguished Scholar. Wilson holds a
doctorate degree in philosophy from Tulane University and has
completed post-doctoral work at Cornell, Columbia, and Princeton.
