"Tideland" by Jen Swearington

UNC Asheville's Craft Campus will continue its year-long lecture series, "Meet the Maker: Conversations of Meaning with Craftspeople," with a talk by noted artist Jen Swearington on Thursday, Feb. 26. She will speak at 12:30 p.m. in Owen Hall, room 237, and at 7 p.m. in Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. Both events are free and open to the public.

Swearington is a nationally recognized fiber artist based in Asheville. Her line of handmade and hand-dyed silk and bamboo clothing, sold under the label "Jennythreads," are carried by galleries and boutiques across the nation. In 2006, HGTV's "That's Clever" aired a segment on her clothing line. Swearington's mixed media quilts and fabric creations have been featured in Surface Design Journal, on the cover of Fiberarts Magazine and in three Quilt National exhibitions. Swearington holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., and a master of fine arts degree in fibers from the Savannah College of Art and Design. In addition to leading a number of workshops, she has served as an adjunct professor at UNC Asheville, Haywood Community College and the Savannah College of Art and Design.
