Gifted, creative and motivated 3rd-8th graders
can super-size their Saturday mornings at UNC Asheville this spring.
The University’s 23rd semi-annual Super Saturday Program begins
February 28 and offers a host of classes, from physics to
photography. The popular six-week program has helped more than
12,000 children from across Western North Carolina explore their
special interests through hands-on learning on the UNC Asheville
campus.
Some 29 unique courses are open for registration. Exciting new
classes this spring include Chinese lion dancing, fashion design,
on-camera acting, poetry, Shakespeare and the world of spies.
Budding artists can take courses in fabric sculpture, pottery,
knitting, improv theatre, quilting or watercolor painting. Tech
geeks can dive into classes on multimedia software or webpage
design. Students interested in becoming global citizens will enjoy
classes in conversational French or German, Tamashii martial arts,
African safari and Caribbean drumming.
Several University faculty members and highly qualified upper-level
students teach Super Saturday classes, along with outstanding public
school teachers and other professionals.
Super Saturday courses meet from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays from
February 28-April 4. All students are welcome to apply; the
registration deadline is February 25. Tuition is $65 for each
course.
