Girard Etzkorn, emeritus professor of St.
Bonaventure University, will lead a discussion on freedom at 7:30
p.m. Tuesday, April 7. The talk will be held at UNC Asheville's
Laurel Forum. The event is free and open to the public. A donation
of $5 will be suggested at the door to support student scholarships.
Etzkorn is an internationally known scholar of medieval texts and
has devoted his life to making the texts of important medieval
thinkers accessible. Etzkorn worked as an editor at the Franciscan
Institute of St. Bonaventure University for 22 years, overseeing the
institute's key research projects and publications of modern
editions of medieval philosophers William of Ockham and John Duns
Scotus.
The talk is part of a year-long, nine-part series co-sponsored by
UNC Asheville's Philosophy Department and the Institute for Applied
Philosophy of Hendersonville. The series, "Great Quotes," is
designed to foster discussion of philosophically significant issues
surrounding notable quotations. The final event in the series will
be held on May 5.
