UNC Asheville Continues Philosophy Lecture Series January 20;
Cynthia Ho to Lead Discussion on Neo-Confucianism

** THIS EVENT IS POSTPONED DUE TO BAD WINTER WEATHER. **

UNC Asheville Literature Professor Cynthia Ho will lead a discussion on Neo-Confucianism at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at UNC Asheville's Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. Her talk will be focused on a quote by Zhu Xi, "Human nature is nothing but heavenly principle." The event is free and open to the public. A donation of $5 will be suggested at the door to support student scholarships.

The talk is part of a year-long, nine-part series co-sponsored by UNC Asheville's Philosophy Department and the Institute for Applied Philosophy of Hendersonville. The series, "Great Quotes," is designed to foster discussion of philosophically significant issues surrounding notable quotations. Previously, this lecture series was held at the Kellogg Center in Hendersonville.

Additional topics and speakers are:

- February 3: "Environmental Ethics," Grace Campbell, UNC Asheville humanities lecturer

- March 17: "May the Force Be with You: How Consumer Action Can Save the World," Leah Mathews, UNC Asheville associate professor of economics

- April 7: "Freedom," Girard Etzkorn, scholar of medieval manuscripts and emeritus professor of St. Bonaventure University

- May 5: UNC Asheville student presentations

For more information about the series, call UNC Asheville's Philosophy Department at 828/251-6413.
