UNC Asheville Offers Two Online Courses for Lateral Entry TeachersUNC Asheville and A-B Technical Community College will host two distance learning online courses designed for employed lateral entry teachers this fall and spring. These eight-week classes are designed for teachers who have their own classrooms and are seeking alternative licensing through the Regional Alternative Licensing Center. “EDU 243: Learning Theory” is a three-credit hour online course. Classes will be offered from October 13-December 1. The classes will be asynchronous; students can access the course information at any time that fits their schedule. This course provides an introduction to learning theory, various styles of learning and motivational factors involved in the learning process. The course will emphasize the development of cognitive skills using the seven types of intelligence and their application to practical classroom situations. Classes will be offered from January 12-March 2. The classes will be asynchronous; students can access the course information at any time that fits their schedule. The course will emphasize the applications of psychological research and theory to the learning processes and the teaching of diverse learners and students with special needs. Developmental, behavioral and cognitive psychological theories will be explored. Cost for North Carolina residents is $267.30 plus a one-time non-refundable $20 application fee.
