UNC Asheville's Music Department will continue
its spring concert season with three performances and a jazz
festival in March.
UNC Asheville's Wind Ensemble, under the direction of John Entzi,
will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at UNC Asheville's Lipinsky
Auditorium. A wide variety of music will be featured, including
pieces by Kenneth J. Alford, Percy Aldridge Grainger and Ralph
Vaughn Williams. Admission is $5.
The University's Jazz Combos, under the direction of Rich Willey and
Tom Coppola, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Lipinsky
Auditorium. Admission is $5.
The University Singers, under the direction of Melodie Galloway,
will perform "A Taste of Style" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at
First Baptist Church, downtown Asheville. Pieces from master
composers spanning 400 years will be presented, including pieces
from Bach, Mendelssohn, Copland and Brahms. Admission is free and
open to the public.
The Sixth Annual UNC Asheville Jazz Festival will be held Saturday,
March 28, at Lipinsky Auditorium. The festival will feature UNC
Asheville and high school jazz ensembles performing throughout the
day. There will also be a master class by guest artist Doug Elliot
at 3 p.m. Elliot will perform with UNC Asheville's Jazz Lab Band at
5 p.m. Admission is $5 for the performance. All other jazz festival
events are free and open to the public.
