UNC Asheville Alumna to Give Talks on Social Change in Rural Haiti

UNC Asheville alumna Amber Munger, assistant coordinator and legal adviser for AMURT-Haiti, will give two talks on her work in rural Haiti on Thursday, Sept. 3, on campus. She will discuss "Economic and Social Change in Rural Haiti" at 12:30 p.m. in the Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. Munger will then give a talk on "Promoting Community Leadership in Haiti's Poorest Communes" at 6:30 p.m. in room 104 of the Highsmith University Union. The events are free and open to the public.

Munger earned a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from UNC Asheville in 2000. She received a juris doctor degree from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2008. She says that she uses her background as an environmental researcher and advocate and her legal education and experience, particularly in the area of human rights, to help guide the operation of AMURT-Haiti's development work.

Founded in 1988, AMURT-Haiti is a non-profit emergency relief and community development organization. Its initiatives focus on creating community-based models of integrated planning and natural resource management in two rural communes.

For more information about the talks, call 828/250-3870.
