Edie Raether will speak on
March 30 |
UNC Asheville's Career Center will host "Life
is Calling…What is Your Intention," a series of events March
30-April 1, designed to help participants discern their life and
career intention. The series will feature national speakers, resume
clinics, an equine-assisted learning experience, Feldenkrais Method
workshops and a guided labyrinth. All events are free and open to
the public.
Intention Week kicks off with a talk by noted inspirational speaker
Edie Raether at 4 p.m.
Monday, March 30, at UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union,
room 222. In her presentation on "Ignite Your Intuitive Intelligence
to Unleash Your PowerZone," she will challenge the audience to
discover passion and purpose in life. Raether is an international
speaker, author and consultant who has presented more than 3,500
programs to professional associations and Fortune 55 companies on
five continents. Her books have been published in numerous languages
and she is one of 175 women worldwide with the Certified Speaking
Professional mark of excellence designation awarded by the National
Speaking Association.

-- Career Counselor and yoga instructor Alex Moody will lead a class
on "Yoga and Intention: Aligning Your Potential" at 4 p.m. Tuesday,
March 31, at UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, room 224.
This two-hour workshop will explore the opening and guiding power of
hatha yoga. She will demonstrate how to listen to one's inner voice
through meditation, breathing and postures. Moody holds a master's
degree in Education from the University of Virginia. She currently
works at UNC Asheville's Career Center and teaches yoga in the
Asheville area.

Horse Sense of the Carolinas will
visit campus on April 1 |
-- The instructors of
Horse Sense of the
Carolinas Inc. will show how horses can benefit students in
"An Equine-Assisted Learning Experience" at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Wednesday, April 1, on the A.C. Reynolds Green, located behind
Ramsey Library. Shannon Knapp, founder and president of Horse Sense,
will demonstrate how working with horses can teach leadership
development and team building skills. After a 10-year career as a
college professor, Knapp began working with abused and neglected
horses. She now pairs rescued horses with people in her innovative
Horse Sense curriculum.
-- Veteran movement coach
Lavinia Plonka will lead two workshops on "Stepping Up in
Style: The Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education" at 4:30 p.m. or
5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, at UNC Asheville's Highsmith
University Union, room 222. She will demonstrate this noted
mind-body approach to develop poise, create posture awareness and
move toward life goals. Plonka's movement experience spans more than
30 years. She has served as artist-in-residence at the Guggenheim
Museum and movement consultant for theater and television companies
around the world, from the Irish National Folk Theatre to
Nickelodeon. Currently she is the director of the Asheville Movement
Center.
-- UNC Asheville's Career Center staff will lead a guided labyrinth
experience from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 3, at the UNC
Asheville Labyrinth, located on the grassy knoll above UNC
Asheville's Weizenblatt Hall and below Ramsey Library. Rain location
is UNC Asheville's Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall.
-- Walk-in resume clinics will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 1, at A.C. Reynolds Green and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on
Thursday, April 2, in Rhodes-Robinson Lobby. The Career Center staff
will give advice for creating a resume or offer review of a current
resume. No appointment is needed.
