From "Contemporary Basketry"

"Contemporary Basketry," an exhibition of more than 40 baskets by Asheville artist Jill Lennox, will be on view at UNC Asheville's Blowers Gallery March 2-29. The mixed media baskets incorporate natural and hand-dyed basket reeds, palm infloresence, yarn, cords, ribbons, wire and beads. An opening reception will be held 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in the gallery. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Lennox's baskets demonstrate the variety of materials and techniques that can be used in this art form. They merge the traditional craft of basket weaving with contemporary art through materials, color and texture.

Lennox holds a bachelor's degree in art from Penn State University and has been making baskets for 14 years. She works in UNC Asheville's Financial Aid Office and teaches a Super Saturday course on "Knots, Braids and Weaves."

Blowers Gallery, located on the main floor of UNC Asheville’s Ramsey Library, is open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. For more information, call 828/251-6546.
