UNC Asheville's Music Department will kick off
its 2009-2010 concert season with a free concert by local favorite
Billy Jonas. The concert will be held at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug.
26, in UNC Asheville's Lipinsky Auditorium. It is free and open to
the public.
Jonas is best known for his "junkadelic folk music" for all ages.
This talented songsmith and multi-instrumentalist performs songs,
stories and improvisations with voice, guitar and "industrial
re-percussion," a collection of instruments made from found and
recycled objects. Audience participation is a hallmark of his shows,
which feature silly and insightful songs such as "Old St. Helen,"
"God is In" and "One Tutu Too Many."
The remainder of the season will feature some 23 additional
performances with a general admission price of $5. Season tickets
are available for $40 at the door of any concert or by calling UNC
Asheville’s Music Department at 828/251-6432.
