Two UNC Asheville Students Selected for Summer Internships with State Agencies

Gov. Beverly Perdue recently announced that two UNC Asheville students are among 100 college, graduate and law students selected for 10-week paid summer internships with state agencies. More than 700 students from across the state applied to the program, which is now in its 39th year.

Senior literature major Hannah Harrison of Greensboro will work as a communications intern for the Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo. The 25-acre park is situated on an island across from the Manteo waterfront and features, a 16th-century ship, an interactive museum and a variety of performing and visual arts.

Sophomore Bethany Thompson of Valdese is working with the Exceptional Equestrians Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program at the J. Iverson Riddle Development Center in Morganton. The Center provides comprehensive residential care to Western North Carolinians with developmental disabilities. The riding program offers the residents a means for emotional expression and physical activity by interacting with specially trained horses.

Harrison and Thompson will work full-time through July 31.
