Ceramics from "Functional Fire"

"Functional Fire," featuring more than 100 wood-fired functional ceramic pots by UNC Asheville senior Katie Hill, will be on view June 8-19 at UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union Gallery. A reception will be held 3-5 p.m. Friday, June 19, in the gallery. The show is a culmination of Hill's work towards a bachelor of fine arts degree from UNC Asheville. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.

"I strive to create simple, comfortable vessels, which offer the daily joys of life – food, flowers, coffee, tea, juice or wine," said Hill. "Their beauty and individuality can only be truly realized through use."

The gallery is located on the lower level of UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information, call UNC Asheville's Art Department at 828/251-6559.
