Brevard native Courtney Gauthier was recently named volunteer coordinator at the Center for Diversity Education at UNC Asheville. Gauthier, who is an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) member, will serve at the Center for one year. VISTA members commit to serve full-time in nonprofit organizations or local government agency throughout the United States, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. Her primary responsibility will be to recruit volunteers from the local community to assist with the work of the Center.

Previously, Gauthier has worked at Winthrop University's Center for Career and Civic Engagement, the Goler Community Development Corporation, Carolina Music Ways and the Salem College Admissions Office. She holds a bachelor's degree in religious studies from Salem College.
