UNC Asheville's Blowers Gallery will host an exhibition of recent works by Deyanira Chavez, which is on view through September 29. An opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in the gallery, which is located on the main floor of Ramsey Library. The artist will speak at 7 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Originally from Mexico, Chavez now lives in Western North Carolina with her family. She arrived in the United States at age 12, learned English, graduated near the top of her high school class and entered architecture school at the UNC Charlotte. Because of her immigration status she was forced to pay out-of-state tuition, which launched her interest in higher education advocacy. She is currently enrolled in community college and hopes to return to UNC Charlotte to continue pursuing her dream of becoming an architect.

Blowers Gallery, located on the main floor of UNC Asheville's Ramsey Library, is open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. For more information, call 828/251-6546.
