Older adults can learn new skills for the new
year at UNC Asheville's nationally renowned College for Seniors.
Registration is now open for more than 65 courses available during
the winter term from January 11-February 22. Classes will be held at
UNC Asheville's Reuter Center, home of the North Carolina Center for
Creative Retirement.
Students can explore Indian film in "Hollywood to Bollywood," take
up a new hobby in "Basic Jewelry Making" or learn timely financial
skills in "Surviving the Crisis. "History courses can be mixed with
recreation, literature classes with personal development, computer
courses with contemporary issues, or music classes with science.
There's something for everyone, and no tests or grades are given.
A special course this session is "Beat the Wintertime Blues." The
class will be held 1-4 p.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 16-30, in the Reuter
Center. Classes will include a screening and discussion of the
Academy Award nominated "Enchanted April" led by film buff Beth
Ellers; a circle and line dancing class led by Denna Yockey; and
storytelling and sing-a-long session with Gwenda Ledbetter and
pianist David Bates. Refreshments will be provided.
Cost for the College for Seniors winter term is $90 for unlimited
courses. Students must also pay the $50 annual membership fee to the
North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement. Membership benefits
include a campus parking permit, access to the University library,
discounts on special events and more.
Class size is limited; early registration is suggested. For more
information or to register, call 828/251-6140 or
