UNC Asheville faculty are widely published
across the spectrum of genres – from poetry to physics. Now they are
sharing their stories of challenges and successes in the publishing
world.
UNC Asheville's Ramsey Library will host a seven-part lecture series
"Brown Bag Book Talks with UNC Asheville Faculty Authors." The talks
will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Special Collections, third floor of
Ramsey Library. The events are free and open to the public.
-- February 12: Holly Iglesias, lecturer in the Master of Liberal
Arts Program, will read from and discuss her latest collection of
poetry, "Souvenirs of a Shrunken World" (Kore Press, 2008).
-- February 24: Physics Professor Chuck Bennett will discuss the
trials and tribulations of authoring "Principles of Physical Optics"
(Wiley, 2008). He encountered such challenges as typesetting
formulas and generating camera-ready technical figures. Software and
workflow strategies will also be discussed.
-- March 5: Cynn Chadwick, lecture in the Literature & Language
Department, will read from and discuss her latest novel, "Babies,
Bikes and Broads: The Third Book in the Cat Rising Series" (Bywater
Books, 2008).
-- March 19: Curt Cloinger, assistant professor of Multimedia Arts
and Sciences, will provide a visual tour of ideas and themes from
his latest book, "Fresher Styles for Web Designers: More Eye Candy
from the Underground" (New Riders, 2008).
-- March 31: Rick Chess, Literature & Language professor and
director of the Center for Jewish Studies, will read from and
discuss his latest collection of poetry, "Third Temple" (University
of Tampa Press, 2007).
-- April 9: Don Diefenbach, associate professor of Mass
Communication, will talk about his latest book, "Video Production
Techniques: Theory and Practice from Concept to Screen" (Routledge,
2007).
-- April 21: Belk Distinguished Professor Mark Gibney will discuss
his newest book, "International Human Rights Law: Returning to
Universal Principles" (Rowman & Littlefield, 2008).
