UNC Asheville's Music Department will continue
its 2008-09 concert season with a Baroque concert at 12:45 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 28, at UNC Asheville's Lipinsky Auditorium. The
performance will feature Gail Ann Schroeder, viola da gamba; Ann
Stierli, recorder and viola da gamba; and Barbara Weiss,
harpsichord. The event is free and open to the public.
Schroeder holds a bachelor of music degree from the University of
Michigan and a Higher Diploma from the Royal Music Conservatory of
Brussels. She has performed extensively as a soloist in the United
States and Europe, and has been featured on radio and television
programs as well as CD recordings. For 14 years, Schroeder taught at
the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Since returning to the United
States in 2004, she continues to teach and lead workshops on the
viola da gamba.
Stierli, who plays the viola da gamba and recorder, holds a bachelor
of music degree from the Eastman School of Music. She has been a
member of the Miami Philharmonic Orchestra, the Knoxville Symphony
and the Early Music Consort of Miami. Currently, Stierli is a member
of the Knoxville Early Music Project and director of the Knoxville
Chapter of the American Recorder Society.
Weiss has performed extensively on harpsichord in the United States
and Canada. Previously, she has served on the faculties of the
University of Miami, the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Concordia
College and the Oberlin Conservatory. Weiss is a member of the
Baroque ensemble Belladonna and has performed on a number of
recordings.
