UNC Asheville's 2009-2010 Writers at Home
Series continues with readings by local authors Cheryl Dietrich and
Catherine Reid at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Malaprop's
Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. The event is
free and open to the public.
Dietrich, who retired from the Air Force in 2000, writes memoirs and
personal essays about her experiences as a woman in the military.
Some of these works have appeared in both literary journals and
anthologies, including “The Gettysburg Review,” “Shenandoah” and
“Birthed in Scorched Hearts: Women Respond to War.” She is currently
working on a full-length memoir. She is a founder and board member
of the Candy Maier Scholarship Fund for Women Writers.
Reid is an award-winning essayist and author of the nonfiction book,
“Coyote: Seeking the Hunter in Our Midst” (Houghton Mifflin). Reid’s
other works have appeared in various journals, including
“Massachusetts Review,” “Green Mountain Review” and “Bellevue
Literary Review.” Reid was the featured writer for the inaugural
issue of “Isotope: A Journal of Literary Nature and Science
Writing.” She currently teaches at Warren Wilson College, where she
specializes in creative nonfiction.
