UNC Asheville to Host Talk on Ancient Judean Culture
UNC Asheville will host a talk by archaeologist Andrea M. Berlin at
7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at UNC Asheville's Ramsey Library,
Whitman Room. In her talk, Berlin will discuss of the spread of
Greek culture across the Hellenistic east and will examine the
backlash in Judea against the common acceptance of Greek culture and
language. The event is free and open to the public.
Berlin is the Morse-Alumni Distinguished Teaching Professor of Archaeology in the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota. Her research specializes in the archaeology of the Hellenistic and Roman Near East. She holds a doctorate from the University of Michigan in classical art and archaeology, and has taught at Georgetown University, George Washington University and the University of Virginia. Her work has taken her to Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt and Israel, where she is currently the co-director of the excavations at Tel Kedesh. The talk is co-sponsored by UNC Asheville's Classics Department and the WNC Chapter of Archaeological Institute of America.
