UNC Asheville's Lead Poisoning Prevention Program to Hold Safety Workshops in Spanish

UNC Asheville's Lead Poisoning Prevention Program will hold two lead paint safety workshops in Spanish in November. The first workshop will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at El Centro, 505B Brookside Camp Rd., Hendersonville. An additional workshop will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Calvary Baptist Church, 531 Haywood Rd., Asheville. Both are free and open to the public and will be conducted completely in Spanish.

The workshops will benefit painters, renovators, maintenance workers, realtors and others working on home improvement projects in structures built before 1978. Approximately 75 percent of the country's housing built before 1978 is likely to contain lead-based paint, a hazard known to cause delays in physical and mental development and even death in children, while causing high blood pressure and reproductive problems in adults.

For more information or to register, call UNC Asheville's Lead Poisoning Prevention Program at 828/251-6104.
