"Designed in China: Contemporary Design from Shenzhen University," featuring more than 70 pieces by more than 100 Shenzhen University students, will be on view September 16-October 28 at UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union Gallery. The exhibit will highlight recent works, which fuse contemporary design, influences of Chinese culture and current science and technology. An opening reception and gallery talk will be held 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the gallery. Lei Han, UNC Asheville assistant professor of multimedia arts and sciences and a graduate of Shenzhen University, will discuss Shenzhen University, its design program and the works on display. The opening reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.

"Designed in China: Contemporary Design from Shenzhen University" includes 2D and 3D computer animation, video and motion media, digital stills, comics and storyboards, fashion design and garments, graphic design, industrial design and environmental design. The university, located on the coastline of Shenzhen Bay in southern China, offers bachelor's and master's degrees in five main fields of design, which are represented in the exhibit.

The gallery is located on the lower level of UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union. It is free and open to the public 9 a.m.-9 p.m. weekdays when classes are in session. For more information, call 828/251-6991.
