UNC Asheville's Music Department Continues Fall Concert Season;

UNC Asheville's Music Department will continue
its fall concert season with five performances in October, ranging
from jazz to chamber music. The concerts feature student musicians
under the direction of University faculty. Tickets are $5 general
admission at the door.
The University Arts Festival Concert will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 5, at First Baptist Church, 5 Oak St., Asheville. The
University Singers and Chamber Singers will present "Songs of Our
Time," featuring music of living composers from around the world.
Melodie Galloway will direct.
A Contemporary Music Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 9, in UNC Asheville's Lipinsky Hall, room 018. Selections will
highlight works by 20th and 21st century composers.
The University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of John Entzi,
will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at UNC Asheville's Lipinsky
Auditorium. A wide variety of music will be featured, including
"Sunrise at Angel's Gate," "Semper Fidelis" and the Oktoberfest tune
"Hoch Die Tassen." UNC Asheville senior Philip Harver will play a
solo performance of "Concertino for Trumpet."
Student jazz combos will present a concert of jazz standards at 7:30
p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at UNC Asheville's Lipinsky Auditorium. The
groups will perform under the direction of Tom Coppola, Dave Wilken
and Rich Willey.
A chamber music concert will round out the performances in October.
The concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at UNC
Asheville's Lipinsky Auditorium. Student groups, including the Flute
Choir, String Quartet, Brass Quintet and Classical Guitar Ensemble,
will perform music from the 20th and 21st centuries. Directors are
John Entzi, Judi Lampert, Inez Redman and David Stevenson. A
reception will follow.
