UNC Asheville will host a distance learning course designed for lateral entry teachers. The three-credit hour course, "Methods and Materials of Teaching in the 6-12 Classroom for Lateral Entry Teachers," will be offered via teleconference and the Internet. Teleconference locations will be on the campuses of UNC Asheville, Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock and McDowell Technical Community College in Marion.

"Methods and Materials of Teaching in the 6-12 Classroom for Lateral Entry Teachers" classes will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from March 18-May 6, 2008.

The courses are designed for teachers who have their own classrooms and are seeking alternative licensing through the Regional Alternative Licensing Center. Classes will focus on best practices as described by the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, classroom management and assessment.

Tuition is $253.02 plus a $20 non-refundable application fee. Students enrolled in both classes must have a computer with Microsoft Word and Internet access.
