UNC Asheville Hosts Classical Indian Dance Master Class
UNC Asheville's Dance Program will host three classical Indian dance
master classes with traditional Odissi dancer Pratibha Jena Singh.
Classes will be held 12:15-1:30 p.m. on October 16, 21 and 23, in
the University's Dance Studio on the lower level of the Health &
Fitness Center. Interested male and female dancers may take one or
more classes. Events are free and open to the public.
Singh performs the classical Indian dance, which is characterized by strong use of the torso, fluidity in the arms, nuanced use of the head, and hand gestures called mudras. Students will learn the meaning of the poses, basic and steps and mudras in the class. Singh has performed and taught classes throughout India, Russia and the United States. For more information, call Connie Schrader, UNC Asheville Dance Program director, at 828/232-5652.
