UNC Asheville drama major Lisa Huie was recently accepted into the prestigious Stage Managers Mentoring Project for the upcoming 2008 United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) Conference. The conference will take place this March in Houston, Texas. The competitive program selects college juniors and seniors to work at the USITT Conference and assigns them a professional mentor in the field.

Huie, a UNC Asheville junior, will stage manage at least one event, ensuring that it starts on time and runs as smoothly as possible. She will work with other interns and be mentored by professional stage and production managers who work at the Kennedy Center and The Walt Disney Company.

"I am extremely excited to be able to meet other college stage managers and to network with them and learn about how they solve problems," Huie said. "And I can't wait to bond with my mentor and gain insight into what my next steps after college might be."

USITT is a national organization of professional theater technicians and designers who network and learn about new advances in theater technology.
