The UNC Asheville Women's Studies Program will
host a screening of the political documentary "Running in High
Heels" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at UNC Asheville's Owen Conference
Center. A panel discussion with local women politicians will follow,
including Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy, Asheville City Councilwoman
Robin Cape and Patsy Keever, former Buncombe County Commissioner.
The event is free and open to the public.
"Running in High Heels," a documentary by Maryann Breschard,
investigates why women remain a minority in the political sphere,
yet constitute a majority of the population. The film follows the
last months of the political campaign of a young Republican woman as
she runs for New York state senate. Interspersed with her story are
interviews and commentary by notable women from the right and left
of America's political spectrum.
