UNC Asheville's Craft Campus will launch a year-long lecture
series, "Meet the Maker: Conversations of Meaning with Craftspeople"
this month. The series will focus on discussions with artists in
various media, including metal, clay, wood, glass and fiber.
Tasmanian furniture maker Patrick Hall will kick off the series on
Thursday, Sept. 18. He will speak at 12:15 p.m. in UNC Asheville's
Owen Hall room 237 and again at 7 p.m. in UNC Asheville's Laurel
Forum. The events are free and open to the public.
Hall was born in Germany and immigrated to Tasmania as a child. He
graduated from the University of Tasmania's School of Art with
majors in furniture design and printmaking. His work has been
exhibited extensively throughout Australia and he has developed a
strong following in the United States. For the past 10 years Hall
has exhibited at the annual International Expositions of Sculpture
Objects and Functional Art in Chicago. In addition to group shows in
Australia, the United States and Japan, Hall's work has been
featured in more than a dozen solo exhibitions.
