From the Jubilation Series
Cecilia Frederic, |
"Homage to Life," an exhibition of 21
multimedia pieces by Black Mountain artists Cecilia and Abigail
Frederic, will be on view at UNC Asheville’s Blowers Gallery through
November 1. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
The series was inspired by connective participatory experiences
between Cecilia and her daughter Abigail, who was born with the
genetic condition Trisomy 18. This condition causes multiple
physical handicaps and mental retardation, including
non-verbalization. At birth, Abigail’s prognosis was a life
expectancy of 24 to 48 hours; today she is 21 years old. The exhibit
is based on Abigail’s drawings and includes some of her personal
paintings.
"The creative process of this series portrays our parallel existence
and our one-on-one relationship and these works are materialized
entities, extension and projections of the two of us," said Cecilia.
Blowers Gallery, located on the main floor of UNC Asheville’s Ramsey
