Keith Flynn will speak on Nov. 13 |
UNC Asheville's Literature and Language
Department will host an evening with award-winning poet Keith Flynn
at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at UNC Asheville's Laurel Forum, Karpen
Hall. Flynn will read from and discuss his recent work. The event is
free and open to the public.
Flynn, who attended UNC Asheville and Mars Hill College, is founder
and managing editor of the Asheville Poetry Review. He is the author
of a collection of essays on poetry entitled "The Rhythm Method,
Razzmatazz and Memory: How to Make Your Poetry Swing" as well as
four collections of poetry, including "The Golden Ratio" and "The
Lost Sea." He has won the Sandburg Prize for poetry, the ASCAP
Emerging Songwriter Prize, the Paumanok Poetry Award and was twice
named the Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet for North Carolina.
Flynn's poetry has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies,
including Colorado Review, Poetry Wales, the Cuirt Journal
(Ireland), Takahe (New Zealand) and Southern Poetry Review. From
1987-1998, he was also lyricist and lead singer for the nationally
acclaimed rock band, The Crystal Zoo, which produced three albums.
Flynn currently lives and works in Marshall, N.C.
