UNC Asheville to Offer Distance Learning Course for Teachers Beginning March 18

UNC Asheville will host a distance learning course this spring designed for lateral entry teachers. The three-credit hour course, "Methods and Materials of Teaching in the 6-12 Classroom for Lateral Entry Teachers," will be offered via teleconference and the Internet. Teleconference locations include UNC Asheville, Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, McDowell Technical Community College in Marion, and Murphy High School's Cyber Campus in Murphy. The course will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from March 18 through May 6.

The course is designed for teachers who have their own classrooms and are seeking alternative licensing through the Regional Alternative Licensing Center. The course will focus on best practices as described by the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, classroom management and assessment.

Tuition for in-state students is $253.02 plus a $20 non-refundable application fee for visiting students. Non-resident student tuition and technology fee is $1,336.86. Those teaching in a North Carolina school are entitled to in-state tuition rates. All students must have a computer with Microsoft Word and Internet access.
