Several UNC Asheville faculty members recently received promotions. Promoted to full professor were Ken Betsalel, political science, and Tim Forrest, biology. Promoted to associate professor were Dee Eggers, environmental studies; George Heard, chemistry; Lora Holland, classics; Sarah Judson, history; Keya Maitra, philosophy; Mary Lynn Manns, management and accountancy; Horace Maxile, music; Christopher Nicolay, biology; and Lorena Russell, literature and language.

New department chairs and program directors are Bill Sabo, Political Science Department; Peg Downes, Interdisciplinary Studies Program; Laura Facciponti, Arts & Ideas; Mark Harvey and Herman Holt, Undergraduate Research Program; Blake Hobby and Charles McKnight, Honors Program; Pam Laughon, Psychology Department; John McClain, Humanities Program; Doug Miller, Atmospheric Sciences Department; Bill Spellman, Master of Liberal Arts Program; and Alice Weldon, Women's Studies Program.
