UNC Asheville Continues Spring Concert SeasonFeaturing sounds ranging from Sinatra to South American, the UNC Asheville Music Department’s two February concerts promise a full range of musical stylings. Both concerts will be held in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium. General admission tickets are $5 at the door. UNC Asheville’s Big Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will take the stage at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18. Directed by UNC Asheville professors David Wilken and Melodie Galloway, the student groups will perform jazz hits made famous by Frank Sinatra, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Louie Bellson, Duke Ellington and others. UNC Asheville’s Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble and newly formed Flute Choir will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25. The Concert Band, directed by John Entzi, will perform selections including “The Trombone King March” by Karl L. King, “Flourish for Wind Band” by Ralph Vaughn Williams and “Siegfried’s Funeral Music” by Richard Wagner. The Percussion Ensemble, directed by Matthew Richmond, will perform three pieces, including the modern Japanese work “Zoku,” the dance movement of Ney Rosauro’s Concerto for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble and Paul Simon’s “Late in the Evening.” The newly-formed Flute Choir, under the direction of Judi Lampert, will perform selections from Dvorak and Telemann.
