There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but UNC Asheville is offering up two free lunchtime concerts to satisfy your musical appetite. The performances, featuring instrumentalist bambooduh and classical guitarist Roger Allen Cope, are open to the public and will be held in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium.

bambooduh will perform at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in UNC Ahseville’s Lipinsky Auditorium. This self-taught musician crafts instruments out of bamboo, gourds and coconuts. During his performances, he plays these string, percussion and wind instruments with a looping machine to create a full-band sound. He often performs in original costumes made also from bamboo, gourds and coconuts. Now an Asheville resident, bambooduh began his musical career in Kauai, Hawaii more than 10 years ago.

Cope will present a concert at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium. A guitar instructor since 1971, Cope is a member of Brevard College’s Affiliate Artist Faculty and operates a community studio at Flat Rock Guitar. He has performed across the southeast as well Canada, Mallorca and Spain. Cope’s discography includes four recordings and he has premiered new music for guitar for artists such as Karen Thomas and Bertil Van Boer. When not teaching or playing, Cope serves as editor of the online arts magazine Classical Voice of North Carolina.

NOTE: Due to illness Cope will not be able to perform. Renowned jazz-blues guitarist Marc Yaxley will perform in his place. The concert will still be held at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in Lipinsky Auditorium.

The concerts are co-sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Music Department ant the Office of Cultural and Special Events.
