Noted jazz group the Jed Levy Band will take center stage at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, in the Chestnut Ridge Room of UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. Saxophonist Jed Levy will perform with pianist Bill Gerhardt, bassist Mike Holstein and drummer Jeff Brillinger as part of the Jazz Composers Forum monthly series. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $20 general admission and $10 for students under age 25. Tickets may be purchased at the Reuter Center reception desk before the event, or online for $21 at www.jazzcomposersforum.org.

The Jazz Journal International magazine calls Levy “a player whose modern approach is to make every note a positive statement.” He has led a variety of groups and has toured throughout Europe, Japan and North America, playing at such venues as Blue Note, Birdland and Sweet Basil. His latest album, “Gateway,” was released by Steeplechase Records in 2006.
