UNC Asheville to Offer Educational Psychology Course for Lateral Entry Teachers

UNC Asheville will offer an educational psychology course for lateral entry teachers as part of the University’s regular summer curriculum. The 300-level class will meet from 5:30-9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 4-26 at the Asheville City School central administration building, 85 Mountain St., Asheville. A half-day seminar will take place from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16. Students will earn three credit hours in psychology.

The course is designed for teachers who have their own classrooms and are seeking alternative licensing through the Regional Alternative Licensing Center. The course will emphasize the applications of psychological theory and research to diverse learning processes and special needs students. Participants will explore the applied examination and understanding of interventions, instructional practices, disabilities, public school law, policy, assessment, and testing in education settings.

The costs are $20 for the non-refundable application fee and $237.57 for in-state tuition. Out-of-state tuition is $1,263.75.
