UNC Asheville Hosts 40th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition
The UNC Asheville Art Department will host its 40th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition April 13-25 in UNC Asheville’s S. Tucker Cooke Gallery, located on the first floor of Owen Hall. Noted North Carolina sculptor Greg Shelnutt will serve as juror. The show is free and open to the public. An opening reception will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the gallery. During the reception, Shelnutt will present awards in seven categories, including sculpture, painting, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, photography and mixed media. Scholarships will also be presented. Shelnutt is the director of visual arts at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. He has exhibited work in more than 300 shows worldwide. His residencies include the Community Council for the Arts in Kinston, N.C., the Association for Visual Artists in Chattanooga, Tenn., and the New York Mills Arts Retreat in New York Mills, Minn. He is the recipient of a Visual Artist Fellowship from the Mississippi Arts Commission and an Emerging Artist Grant from the Jerome Foundation. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays.
