UNC Asheville Holds Greenfest Celebrations April 16-20UNC Asheville students will go green in celebration of UNC Asheville's semi-annual Greenfest April 16-20. Since its beginning in 1991, Greenfest participants have added more than 500 trees, 14 trails and hundreds of plants to the UNC Asheville campus and the Asheville Botanical Gardens. A series of campuswide projects will bring students, faculty and staff together to take part in a variety of campus environmental projects. The public is invited for a free showing of the Academy Award-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, on the UNC Asheville Quad. The acclaimed film tackles issues surrounding climate change and global warming. Rain location is UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, Alumni Hall. UNC Asheville will also join in the City of Asheville's "Strive Not to Drive" festivities. On April 20, students are encouraged to walk, bike, carpool or bus to school. UNC Asheville's Student Government Association will provide free breakfast and bike tune-ups. Other projects UNC Asheville students, faculty and staff will undertake include a dormitory recycling challenge, Glenn's Creek and Asheville Botanical Gardens clean-ups, and organic gardening.
