UNC Asheville Professor Duane Davis is Featured Speaker in Ireland, Argentina

Duane Davis, UNC Asheville associate philosophy professor, was recently a featured speaker at the Cork Roundtable in Philosophy in Cork, Ireland. Davis discussed the political implications of the existential state in "Being-In and Acting-Out." While in the United Kingdom, Davis also gave colloquium presentations on "The Political Horizon of Merleau-Ponty's Ontology" in Manchester, England and "Political Embodiment and Subjectivity" in Dundee, Scotland.

In addition, Davis just returned from Cordoba, Argentina, where he served as plenary speaker at The International Symposium on Representation in Art and Science. He discussed political representation from an existential perspective.

Since joining UNC Asheville's faculty in 1998, Davis has developed an international reputation in philosophy circles. He has presented lectures in Denmark, Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Canada and throughout the United States. Davis has published a book and a number of scholarly articles on 19th and 20th century continental philosophy, ethics, and social and political philosophy. He holds a bachelor's degree from Purdue University and a master's degree and doctorate from Pennsylvania State University.
