UNC Asheville will host a talk on "The Impacts
of Climate Change on Humans and Natural Systems: Latest Results from
the IPCC" at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at UNC Asheville's Karpen
Hall room 038. Noted environmental expert Leonard Bernstein will
discuss the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC)
Fourth Assessment Report, for which he served as a convening author.
The IPCC Fourth Assessment Report, which
summarizes the state of knowledge on climate change, is being issued
in four parts throughout 2007. The first part, issued in February,
covered the science of climate change. The second part, issued on
April 6, looks at the impact of current climate change on humans and
natural systems.
Bernstein is respected consultant on global
environmental issues. After spending 31 years working on
environmental matters for the petroleum industry, Bernstein founded
L.S. Bernstein and Associates, a consulting company that advises
industrial clients on technical and political developments and other
ecological issues. He has attended every United Nations negotiating
session on climate change since 1995 and served as a lead author on
the IPCC's Third Assessment Report, published in 2001.
The talk is sponsored by UNC Asheville's
Environmental Studies, Atmospheric Sciences and Chemistry
departments.
