UNC Asheville Hosts Talk on Climate Change

UNC Asheville will host a talk on “The Current Science of Climate Change” at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at UNC Asheville’s Karpen Hall, room 038. Noted environmental expert Leonard Bernstein will present key findings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report, for which he served as convening lead author. A reception will follow in UNC Asheville’s Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. All events are free and open to the public.

Bernstein is a noted consultant on global environmental issues. After spending 31 years working on environmental matters for the petroleum industry, Bernstein founded L.S. Bernstein and Associates, a consulting company that advises industrial clients on technical and political developments and other ecological issues. He has attended every United Nations negotiating session on climate change since 1995 and served as lead author on the IPCC’s Third Assessment Report, published in 2001.

The talk is sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Environmental Studies, Atmospheric Sciences and Chemistry departments. For more information, call Kevin Moorhead, UNC Asheville Environmental Studies Department Chair, at 828/232-5183.
