Six new members were recently appointed to UNC
Asheville's National Alumni Council: Joseph M. Beckert of Charlotte;
Athena Fox Brooks of Hendersonville; Anne May Cagle of Rock Hill,
S.C.; Tarik Glenn of Asheville; Heather Enloe Hudson of Camden,
Ark.; and Betty Jones Seifert of Cornelius, N.C. All will serve a
two-year term.
Beckert is a certified financial planner and vice president with
Merrill Lynch. A 1988 graduate of UNC Asheville, Beckert earned a
master's degree in organic chemistry from Clemson University. He
worked in environmental consulting and chemical sales before joining
Merrill Lynch.
Brooks, a 1988 graduate of UNC Asheville, earned a law degree from
UNC Chapel Hill. She served as an assistant district attorney in
Buncombe County before transferring to the 29th District. She has
been a judge since 2004. Brooks has served in the Army Reserve since
2000 and was activated and sent to Germany in 2006, where she served
as Trial Council for V Corps. She also teaches for the University of
the Cumberlands' Education Department.
Cagle is the executive vice president of information technology for
GMAC Insurance and a 1986 UNC Asheville graduate. She holds a
master's degree in organizational management and is completing a
master's degree in project management. Cagle also teaches graduate
students at DeVry University's Keller Graduate School of Management.
Glenn, Mission Hospitals workforce development specialist, graduated
from UNC Asheville in 2006. He designs programs to strengthen and
develop successful career lattices for incumbent staff, community
members and prospective employees. Glenn also develops interactive
and engaging learning modules that encourage students to pursue
healthcare careers.
Hudson, quality operations specialist for Aerojet and 1966 graduate,
was a member of the first four-year class at Asheville-Biltmore
College, UNC Asheville's predecessor institution. Hudson worked for
Northrop Carolina as a quality control chemist and in 1985 she
accepted a similar position with Atlantic Research Corporation. She
later moved to quality engineering in the automotive airbag inflator
division before working as a quality operations specialist for
Aerojet.
Seifert, a 1983 UNC Asheville graduate, recently retired from owning
several retail businesses. She now volunteers as vice president of
fundraising for the Symphony Guild of Charlotte.
The UNC Asheville National Alumni Council is composed of 18
graduates from around the country who serve as an advisory board to
the chancellor, other members of the senior staff and the Division
of Alumni and Development. The National Alumni Council serves as a
guiding voice and helps to facilitate the interchange between the
University and its alumni.
