UNC Asheville Professor Named to Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program

Robert C. Tatum, UNC Asheville assistant professor of economics, was one of 16 professors from across the nation recently selected to participate in the Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program in Brazil. The five-week trip will feature seminars, travel and individual research for educators in the social sciences and humanities. Tatum will travel to the wetlands of Corumba, Sao Paulo, Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and other areas of Brazil to study issues surrounding sustainable development.

Tatum, who joined UNC Asheville's faculty in 2004, holds a doctorate in economics from Indiana University. His research interests focus on the macroeconomic impact of trade liberalization in developing countries.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program seeks to improve educator's understanding and knowledge of the people and cultures of other countries. Seven to 10 seminars are provided yearly, with grants covering the cost of round-trip airfare, room and board, tuition and fees, and program-related travel within the host country.
