UNC Asheville Safety Officer Chris Miller recently earned a Manager of Environmental Safety and Health (MESH) certification through North Carolina State University, the Safety and Health Council of North Carolina, and the North Carolina Department of Labor. The training took some 100 hours.

"The Department of Labor is extremely pleased that Chris Miller has been named as a recipient of the Manager of Environmental Safety and Health certificate," said Cherie K. Berry, North Carolina Labor Commissioner. "The certificate reflects a commitment to workplace safety and health, an objective that we consider essential in making sure that workers in this state go home safe at the end of the workday."

The MESH program is designed to increase the professionalism of environmental, safety and health managers at governmental, commercial and manufacturing sites in North Carolina through a rigorous series of continuing education programs. The MESH program also strives to raise industry safety standards.

Miller joined UNC Asheville in February 2006. He holds a bachelor's degree in environmental health from Western Carolina University. Previously, Miller worked at Caldwell County Hospice, Buncombe County Health Department and Wilkes County Health Department.
