Cuban Author Pablo Medina to Read at UNC Asheville April 19
UNC Asheville will host an evening with renowned Cuban author Pablo Medina at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at UNC Asheville's Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. Medina, UNC Asheville's 2007 P.B. Parris Visiting Writer, will read from his works. The event is free and open to the public. Cuban-born Medina is the author of 10 books of poetry and prose. His latest collection of poetry is "Points of Balance/Puntos de Apoyo" and his most recent novel, "The Cigar Roller," was published in 2006. He is currently at work on his fourth novel and is collaborating with writer Mark Statman on a new English version of "Poet in New York," a collection of poetry by Spanish poet and dramatist Garcia Lorca. Medina has received a number of grants and awards, including those from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Lila Wallace/Reader's Digest Fund, and the Rockefeller Foundation. He serves on the faculty of Eugene Lang College, the New School for Liberal Arts in New York City, the Warren Wilson College Master of Fine Arts Program for Writers, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Medina’s visit is made possible by an endowment established by the friends of P.B. Parris, a retired UNC Asheville creative writing professor and author of "Waltzing in the Attic."
