UNC Asheville Board of Trustees to Meet in Retreat July 23-24UNC Asheville's Board of Trustees will meet for a retreat July 23-24 at the Broyhill Inn & Center on the campus of Appalachian State University. On Monday, July 23, the retreat will convene at 10 a.m. and will adjourn at 5 p.m. The agenda includes a review of the roles and responsibilities of trustees, swearing in of new trustees, annual election of officers and discussion of the University's strategic plan. Appalachian State University Chancellor Ken Peacock has invited UNC Asheville Board of Trustees members to join him, his wife and the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees for a reception and dinner at 6 p.m. at the Appalachian House. On Tuesday, July 24, the retreat will begin with breakfast at 8 a.m. and will officially convene at 8:45 a.m. Agenda items include discussions on UNC Asheville's role as an undergraduate university and the optimal size of the University. The retreat will adjourn at 12:15 p.m. followed by a lunch. Portions of the retreat may be closed to the public under the provision of the North Carolina Open Meetings Act. The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees has 13 members; eight are appointed by the UNC Board of Governors and four are appointed by the governor. The UNC Asheville Student Government Association president, who is elected by the student body, also sits on the board. The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees promotes the sound development of the University and serves as advisor to the Board of Governors and the chancellor.
