UNC Asheville's Super Saturday Program Offers Super Classes for KidsSaturdays are super this winter at UNC Asheville! Gifted, creative and motivated 3rd-8th graders have an opportunity to explore chemistry, chess, cartooning, creative writing and much more at UNC Asheville’s 20th annual Super Saturday Program beginning February 25. The program has helped more than 12,000 children from across Western North Carolina explore their special interests through hands-on learning on the UNC Asheville campus. Some 36 unique courses are open for registration. Young scientists can take courses in dinosaurs, cartography, physics, veterinary science or learn how to be an environmental detective. Budding performers can study drumming, musical theatre dance, Irish step dance and stage combat. Students interested in becoming global citizens will enjoy classes in traditional African culture, royalty of the Middle Ages, French conversation, German language and culture and Tamashii martial arts. Exciting new courses include “Pod Squad,” exploring the world of MP3 players, iPods and music downloads, as well as an interactive class on the book “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Several University faculty members and highly qualified upper-level students teach Super Saturday classes, along with outstanding public school teachers, educators and other professionals. Super Saturday courses meet 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays between February 25-April 1. All students are welcome to apply. Tuition is $65 for each course. Deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 17. For more information or to request an application, call Leanna Preston, UNC Asheville Super Saturday Coordinator, at 828/250-3833 or click on www.unca.edu/supersaturday/. Media Contacts:
