Center for Creative Retirement’s free computer literacy classes for
underserved adults ages 50 and older. Funded through a grant from
Smith Barney, the classes are designed to serve local low-income and
minority seniors. Space is limited. Application deadline is Friday,
Sept. 29.
Three courses are available this fall. All will meet at the Reuter
Center on the UNC Asheville campus for six consecutive weeks. The
beginner class will meet from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Mondays beginning
October 16. An advanced beginner class will meet on Wednesdays from
3 p.m. to 5 p.m. beginning October 11. An advanced topics course
will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays beginning October 12.
To date, more than 450 seniors have participated in the North
Carolina Center for Creative Retirement’s computer literacy courses.
Classes are taught by skilled UNC Asheville undergraduates who are
trained and supervised by campus experts. Participants will learn
basic computer skills, how to use e-mail and the Internet. They will
also find out how to access free public computers in the area.
